They come back from China one Wednesday so late that it's actually been Thursday for a good three hours already. Hyukjae knows this because he has been sitting in the living room, waiting, for the past six hours, ignoring Eeteuk's every attempt to make him go to bed. Friendships have no schedules, he tells Jungsu, who pauses, head tilted, and then nods. So Hyukjae waits, just like Sungmin waits, just like all the rest of them wait. And three hours into Thursday they hear a key scraping at the front door lock.

What follows is a blur, nothing but a whirlwind of tangled limbs and broken sentences. Hyukjae feels the familiar softness of Donghae's hair pressed against his cheek, cries and hides his tears for no apparent reason, and allows himself to float in the wave of relief that washes over everyone, because they are at long last together, and 'they' doesn't refer to only six or seven of them anymore.

When Donghae finally lets go of Hyukjae, when Hyukjae finally believes that all of the members actually are there - heartfelt hugs and gentle fingertips lingering on arms and faces - he sees one more person, one that he knew would be there, of course, because why would he not be there, but Hyukjae still can't help but feel a bit startled. Feeling a bit unsure, he simply looks for a while and sees tense shoulders and a small, uncomfortable smile. The awkwardness that comes from not quite belonging.

Henry shifts his weight from one foot to another and thinks to himself for the umpteenth time that night that he should have just gone to a hotel. Or stayed at the airport. Anything except come here. It's not that he feels unwelcome as it is, not with Sungmin's embraces and the multitude of friendly pats he has received on the shoulders, but sadly not feeling unwelcome doesn't exactly equal feeling at home. He shifts again and lifts his gaze as someone calls his name.

Hyukjae feels even more unsure of himself now. Henry is looking at him with polite expectancy in his eyes and Hyukjae wants to say something, anything really, but most importantly he wants to say it right.

"I," he begins, feeling a blush creeping up along his neck, "I almost missed you." For a moment a heavy silence hangs between them and Hyukjae's heart sinks. Doesn't Henry still understand Korean even that much? Won't he ever understand? But finally a smile, this time a genuine one, lights up Henry's face.

"I almost missed you too, hyung." And it may not be much, but Hyukjae beams with joy.
