When I talked to Lauren about it (one of the other adults in charge, she's my age), she said that it was because I didn't act like an adult. So kids would rather have an uptight person in charge instead of a fun goofball?

That's crap. You just have to have a visible difference between being fun and wielding authority. A halo of fire tends to work well. Laser beam eyes are good too.
