I couldn't believe how well he sang and danced! I think overall they did a good job with updating the Oscars and give it some energy.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. I was thinking the same thing when I was watching them. It also seemed like it was the first time in a long time that the emcee was someone known primarily for acting (rather than being a comedian).

Oh, I knew he could sing and dance - I saw him on Broadway in "Boy from Oz" back a few years now... he's one of those amazing actors who can pretty much do it all, which is part of the reason I love him so. :)

I think you're right about the comedian vs. actor thing too... I haven't watched the Oscars for a few years but I can't think of any "memorable" hosts who haven't been comedians.
