It's February 14th and a young Akihiko walks down the sidewalk, a young Shinjiro by his side. The pair of boys are dressed in their school uniforms, bags slung over their shoulders as they chat and laugh amongst themselves, talking about nothing in particular - math class, what happened during gym, the latest episode of Featherman, the sorts of things kids found exceptionally interesting.
As they near the orphanage they lived, a little girl's voice calls out to them:
"Shinjiii~ Big bro~ ♥"
A little fair-haired girl dashes out the gate with two pieces of chocolate in hand. She can't be more than four or five years old, her hair is short but drawn up into two little pigtails - she resembles Akihiko a great deal. "Big bro! Big bro! We made chocolates today, this one is for you and this one is for Shinji!"
The little girl lets out a cheerful giggle, eagerly handing the chocolates to the pair of boys. They accept the chocolates in hand.
"Thanks," Shinjiro states as he and Akihiko both nod and take bites of the confection in unison. Valentine's has been full of giri-choco for them both but they're more than willing to accept another helping.
...Until they actually bother to taste it.
Akihiko slowly turns his head to Shinjiro, who is doing the same. This chocolate... Tastes like chalk. As they stare at each other, both glance down to the smiling little girl who is awaiting their reply. As a moment passes, her smile begins to falter - realizing their silence means something is amiss.
"Y-you don't like it?" she asks, pouting as she looks up to them, her gray eyes starting to well up with tears.
Akihiko finishes chewing the chocolate in his mouth and smiles brightly. "This? Miki, it's the best chocolate I've ever had!" he exclaims, reaching out to pat the girl on the head. Shinjiro lets out a laugh, nodding in agreement.
It may not have been the best chocolate in the world but as Akihiko looks down at that smiling little girl's face, he knew it was going to be something he'd remember for the rest of his days.
[Akihiko sits up in his bed, rubbing his head with a sigh. His hands move through his hair as he shuts his eyes, ignoring the blink of his Dreamberry. He knows it got this.]
(ooc: lol posting at work :V typos fixed later, we'll see if I can actually manage to get this proxy to let me reply to things too.)
