Sometimes I just can't stand the ignorance...

The National Canine Research Council in the USA reports on things like dog bites and the media (linked to above) and talks about the sensationalism involved with "Pit Bull" breeds and "attacks" - in their report they talk about people and children attacked by golden retrievers, labrador retrievers - ( Read more... )

WOW. Good work! I'm going to show this to the SO when he gets home because we have gotten into it a couple of times over this. He seems to think that pit bulls are a dangerous breed and I keep telling him that he's misinformed.

I've always felt that a dog's behaviour has a lot more to do with the person that handles it than anything else.

he's definitely. MOST definitely misinformed.

A dog's behaviour does have to do with it's owner/handler more than it's genetics - look at all the fight dogs who were bred repeatedly to "thicken the bloodlines" toward aggression that have been rescued, reformed, and placed in loving homes where they don't 'act out aggressively' or kill anyone/thing...

I need some help Chriss. My girlfriend just got a puppy (about 6 months) from a shelter. She was RAVING about what a doll the pup was and as soon as I walked in the house she started to GROWL at Ky and shake horribly. She let me hold her (She's a terrier/Chihuahua mix) and was fine with me. She let Ky pet her for a second after we had Ky SIT next to me and stay quiet and calm - then hold out his hand to her to let her sniff it. We thought things were totally cool but Justine put the pup "away" (behind a baby gate in the kitchen) and Ky watched cartoons until Justine's hubby got home. He went over to the pup and Ky followed him, pup let Ky pet her AGAIN until Paul walked away then she growled at Ky again and BIT him. It didn't break the skin or anything but still it's upsetting (especially) since they want to have kids in the near-ish future. AND I enjoy going over there to hang out with muh friend. This was all over the span of a couple of hours and Ky was never left ALONE with the dog or anything.

What can we do?? Ideas?

and they need to do it asap - before the dog is 11 or 12 months old. and i'd keep my kid away from the dog until they've got the situation under control for safety's sake.

I don't generally work with aggression cases outright, and I won't do it over the internet. Sorry love.

Politicians do not give a damn rosks305 March 3 2010, 19:09:02 UTC
They are not interested in facts or stats.BSL is merely a step up the political ladder for them.Pitbulls with the help of the media has become high profile for these Scumbags.
A little quote I thought was appropiate.

The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.
