[ voice ]

Santa,

Here is my list of impossible things I want that you can't give me:
  • To go back and dump Carver on his stupid ass before he has a chance to charge that ogre;
  • A chance to turn back three years and tell Bethany she can't go on that blighted expedition;
  • Or even just a chance to tell her I'm sorry for what I did, and mean it;
  • Malcolm Hawke to ( Read more... )

cursed!

[ She's not supposed to say things like that, she's supposed to be the one who holds it all together, even if she holds it together in very strange ways and sometimes when he's thinking more clearly he can recognize that she's wearing a mask as surely as he is and probably better-- ]

Hawke, I don't know if you can hear me but if you need to talk...

[He'll leave it at that, and may also keep an eye out for her while looking around the City.]

[ She doesn't hear him. Her device is off, thrown into a corner of the small apartment she commandeered, and she's been lucky because it hasn't followed her. It's hours later that she's finally making her way back, unsteady on her feet and head light with alcohol.

Then she turns a corner and walks straight into Anders, feathers from his pauldrons catching in her mouth and making her sputter as she sways back. ]

In most societies, it is considered impolite to just block someone's way like--oh. Anders.

[He reaches out to steady her and stop her from stumbling too far back instinctively, his nose wrinkling at the smell of alcohol on her breath.]

You've been drinking, I see.

[ She pushes his hand away, sways again, and reaches out to brace herself with a hand on the wall. ]

An astonishingly astute observation. Did you need magic to figure that out, or did I accidentally give it away somehow?

[ She doesn't answer until the next day, well into the afternoon, and she sounds--well. ]

Only if I get to throw it at a deity and light them on fire.

Only if we get to keep the good bottles to ourselves. No sense in wasting it over those assholes.

But that's where all the fun is. Torch them with the good liquor and get smashed on the awful stuff.

You're really only requesting the ability to time travel.

It... didn't seem something someone like you would do.
