i saw hitchhikers guide to the galaxy tonite, it was worth seeing but i would not buy it. at least it made more sense than the couple orginal episodes i watched

I think there is a function that all creatures perform. And very similarly, it is to reproduce. In the same way, the reason for this is the easiest way to keep ones race alive. This seems obvious to me, the roll of competition, war, and "violence" that seems inherent in all creatures. If a stronger creature were to survive over a weaker creature, than he will spawn leading to stronger spawn. A.K.A. Natural Selection.
As for the world is concern, I do believe humans are working toward winning such a great race(as in indie 500 kind of race, not the dog/cat kind of race), however, we are not on top yet. Though we are the most "conciously intelligent" creatures, we are not winning in several other areas(such as strength and survival instincts), and our curiousity may lead to our own downfall. For example we may nuke ourselves to death, unto which cockroaches and several other creatures will become the dominant race.
