Rooftop Rant (Chapter 5)

Title: Rooftop Rant
Pairing: Nishikido Ryo/Ueda Tatsuya
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my own weird imagination :d
Warning: All the characters were totally opposite with the real character of these JE boys. And yes, Ryo is older than Tatsuya in this fiction. The content of this story can be disturbing to some, so feel free to stop reading if you don’t like it >:p
A/N1: This is an adaptation from one of my fav novel/writing Hlovate's Rooftop Rant. The writing is so inspiring that I can't help but keep reading it over and over again. Then I thought it would be nice if I can write a different version of it. It might be a bit similar but as the story goes, I'll try to write it in a different way. So here I am :')
A/N2: I love Ryoda a lot but I’ve never write anything about this pairing. So I thought it’s about time for me to write Ryoda fiction. Since I’m very much new to this writing and LJ thing, be easy on me please? *puppy eyes attacks*

CHAPTER 5 - I CARE ABOUT YOU, TOO

*****
“You weren’t home during days; I hardly can see you in the evening. And when the night comes, you were nowhere to be seen” his mother was standing in front of him, both hands on her waist. She was mad, glaring at Ryo with eyes full with anger. “What’s going to happen to you, Ryo?” she shook her head. “Why can’t you just stay at home? If I see you’re home, at least I knew you weren’t doing anything bad. Try to behave more like your brothers”

He stared at the textbook in front of him without blinking his eyes. There she goes again. She won’t stop comparing him with his brothers. Everything seemed wrong about him. Nothing was ever right. And he chose to stay silent; it was useless after all to go against her words. It will only made she got even madder. So the best option was not to say anything.

“Ryo, are you listening to me? Listen to me when I talk to you. Don’t show that kind of face to me, it’s rude!” Ryo sighed in silent. If he talked back, he was labeled rude. And when he decided not to say anything, he was still labeled rude. Nothing was ever right.

“Just what are you doing when you were outside?” Ryo flipped the next page of the textbook.

“College”

“What about in the evening?”

“Sports” he highlighted a few words on the page in his textbook.

“And night?”

“Working”

“Are you really going to college? I don’t trust you at all! Ryo, don’t do anything stupid and ridiculous! Have a pity on your father a bit. He’s working hard to find the money and support you. It’s not easy, do you understand?”

Yes, I do understand. He closed the book. His mood to study flew away through the window. He can’t stay focused on his reading at all, not in this kind of environment.

“Stay at home today. Don’t you ever think of going out again”

He pushed the chair with his legs backwards a bit and stood up. He grabbed the book before walked off, climbed up the stairs to his room. A few minutes later, he climbed down the stairs, already dressed up with a backpack on his shoulder.

“Ryo!”

“I’m going out!” he yelled back before drove off with his motorcycle. It wasn’t calm at all. He couldn’t find the peacefulness he wanted in his own house. So pathetic.

*****
“I have a request” Ryo’s tone of voice was dreary. Monotonous. Eyes on the sketchbook with the mechanical pencil in his hand.

Tatsuya raised his eyebrow. He was still standing. He didn’t even have a chance to take his seat beside Ryo. Okay, this isn’t good. What’s wrong with him?

“Stay quiet for today” it was an order, it wasn’t a request.

Tatsuya’s jaw dropped. He stared at Ryo who was so engrossed with his drawing. But something was wrong. There wasn’t even a trace of smile on Ryo’s face. He looked restless, tensed, and tangled. Tatsuya gulped and nodded his head though he knew Ryo wasn’t looking. Carefully, he put his backpack on the floor before sat at his usual place, next to Ryo. He still had his eyes on Ryo, who was still looking as trouble as before. Tatsuya bit his lips nervously. What’s wrong with Ryo? Tatsuya really wanted to know but he didn’t have the gut to ask. Finally, he decided to let Ryo calm down first. He opened his backpack and pulled out his MP3 player. He hadn’t used it on this rooftop for quite some time now since he had Ryo. But today, he was using the abandoned MP3 again. He glanced at Ryo once before he leaned against the wall and threw his look ahead as far as he could.

It has been 2 months since he knew Ryo. They didn’t do anything special, just a random talk about their life but Tatsuya felt good about it. They only met three days in a week; days when Tatsuya had his tuition classes at the building across the street. Sometimes he came here on weekend too though Ryo couldn’t make it because of his part time job. It’s better to be here than staying at home. No one was home though it was weekend. Dad was surely busy with golf meetings with his business friends and mum too was busy with her club meeting. He was all alone after all.

Ryo who was suddenly torn the paper apart from his sketchbook roughly shocked Tatsuya a bit. Ryo threw it to the other side of the rooftop angrily. Tatsuya froze. He gulped. He slowly pulled away the headphones. Ryo snorted in annoyance.

Tatsuya bit his lower lip. “Ryo” he called out in a very low voice.

Ryo just gave him a quick glance before he took the bottle beside him and drank the water in it. Hesitantly, Tatsuya reached out for his backpack and took out a package of Snickers. He tore away the wrapper.

Ryo brought back the bottle to his mouth but stopped his action when Tatsuya handed out the Snickers bar. He stared at the Snickers before switched his gaze to look at Tatsuya. Ryo couldn’t describe the look on Tatsuya’s face. Tatsuya looked kind of scared, a bit nervous, and curious. And Ryo felt like laughing when he saw those expressions on Tatsuya. He raised his left eyebrow.

“Chocolate?” Tatsuya was still handing out the Snickers to Ryo. There was uncertainty in his voice. “Make you feel better?”

And Ryo finally laughed. He shook his head and Tatsuya wasn’t sure if he should laugh too or not. “You remember” and Tatsuya smiled when Ryo took the Snickers from his hand. He didn’t say anything, only spent the time by looking at Ryo who was biting the Snickers bit by bit. At least, Ryo looked rather calm than before now.

“Why? Is there something on my face?” without looking, Ryo threw a question which made Tatsuya got off guarded.

“Eh?” Tatsuya tried to smiled, a taint of blush painted on his smooth cheeks. But instead of replying it, he looked away.

Ryo titled his head and looked at Tatsuya through the corner of his eyes. “Thanks” and lifted the Snickers that already half ate. Tatsuya only replied with a smile. And silence took over the whole situation. Both of them were drowning in their own thoughts.

What’s wrong with Ryo? Why he is so moody today? Why he is angry? Tatsuya gave Ryo a sidelong look. Is there a problem at his college? Or was his mother get angry at him again? Or a problem at the restaurant he is working? Or…

“Ryo?”

“Hmm?”

“Are you fighting with your girlfriend?”

Ryo turned his head around to his left side where Tatsuya was sitting. He looked a bit surprise with the sudden question before he burst out a loud laugh.

“What?” Tatsuya looked a bit lost.

“You” Ryo shook his head. “Are funny” and Tatsuya pouted. “It’s nothing like that. Things happened at home”

“I see” Tatsuya paused, thinking that Ryo might want to continue with his story but the latter was so busy finishing the Snickers in his hand. Tatsuya was debating with himself whether he should ask further. He wanted to know. He wanted to listen, just the way Ryo did for him. “What happened at home?”

“My mum got angry at me, as usual”

Tatsuya nodded, showing that he was listening and understood the situation. “I understand” Honestly, he did understand the feeling of unloved, the feeling where no one cared about you, the feeling when you felt you’re no good, the feeling of being young yet hopeless. But at least Ryo still had someone who cared about what he did. They at least cared whether Ryo was really went to college or not, what Ryo did at night, or where Ryo was going; though they didn’t understand what Ryo wanted to be and what was the best for Ryo. Guess, life was never perfect for anyone. Life was simply hard, it’s all up to you on how would you want that life to end.

“Ryo”

“Hmm?” he finished the Snickers and now was drinking his water.

“You know I’m here right? For you, too?” eyes were focusing on the building in front of him.

Ryo smiled. All the anger feelings and his misery were disappeared. They vanished in the thin air the moment he saw Tatsuya’s smile and heard the concern voice of Tatsuya. How ironic. Someone who he just knew 2 months ago managed to make his life and feeling even better.

“Hey, let’s go somewhere” Ryo stood up. He took his backpack on the ground and slid it on his shoulder.

Tatsuya looked up. “Where?”

“Follow me”

Tatsuya stood on his foot and quickly grabbed his own backpack. “The restaurant? Working?”

“Just follow me” Ryo was already at the exit entrance.
