Yay! We bottled the Harry Potter-inspired butterbeer tonight. It's pretty much the butterscotch/butter/rum-flavored equivalent of Zima, but not too terrible, considering those are flavors which shouldn't ever show up in beer ( Read more... )

I've got five varieties of "the classics": Hallertauer, Tettnanger, Fuggles, Kent Goldings, and Saaz. You can have rhizomes this spring if you want; I'll be thinning them around tulip time. They grow easy in moist soil with lots of organic stuff. I just dump my spent grain around them. And they need to climb something that's like 12-20 feet tall. Storage is easy--dry them and freeze them in Ziplocs.
