once again, i feel the need to write that all-encompassing life update because i've been lax about my livejournal and because facebook as this new thing that allows you to import your blogs. so here is it: i have a job. i'm moving to gainesville, FL. i'm spending all my time packing and watching dvds from blockbuster and have nothing to read ( Read more... )

If you want to read a different fantasy series, I recommend Steven Erikson's The Malazan Book of the Fallen, which is a cross between the fall of Rome, Byzantium and its ascendance and subsequent decadence, black comedy, Carl Jung, and Vietnam-era writers and their takes on war ( ... )

You should go ahead and read A Feast For Crows if for no other reason than to know what happens next. There's stuff in there that'll make you forgive Georgie Boy for killing off your two favorite characters ( ... )

i will investigate reading the new series (i do have SOME basic understanding of traditional military procedures, after all. what dedicated fantasy reader doesn't?) and your recommendation to finish the offending GRRM book is actually the second i've gotten this week, which means i'll do so. that's as soon as everything else in my life settles down. reading is such a distant luxury right now.

As an FYI on the Malazan series I recommended: I'm now done with the first four books, and they're quite amazing. At the end of the third book, however, two thirds of the main characters (of that story arc) wind up dead, but not in the GRRM "bad things happen to good people" style; more of a satisfying storytelling style ( ... )
