Never try to plug in a CD-ROM drive while your computer is on. It can only end badly.

Back when my 600e was my primary laptop I used to switch primary drives when I wanted to boot into a new OS because I had so many drives for it (I had at least 6). One time I pulled the drive out while the box was running. I pulled the power and battery, popped the drive back in place and it booted without a problem.
