Summary: Processing a crime scene
The elevator stopped and opened into the penthouse. From the entrance,
Stella Bonasera could see the Hudson River in the distance. She stepped under the crime tape and on the gleaming hardwood floor. “So Lindsey, what have you found?”
Lindsey looked up from the corner where she was working, “There were stains on this carpet. It’s blood.” She continued, “The floor underneath is stained too.”
“Blood never comes out of hardwood floors. Whose blood?”
“Human. I’ll take the swabs back to the lab and run them thru CODIS.”
“Anything else?”
“The bedroom needs to be processed. The owner is Nada Chapman. Her girlfriend called the police after Nada never showed for a photo shoot and her phone went straight to voicemail.”
“Why did she call the police?”
“According to her, Nada always called if she was running late.”
Stella walked along the edge of the room and into the bedroom. It had been ransacked with drawers opened and their contents scattered. She approached the bed. It was neatly made and looked unslept in.. Where was Nada?
