Thar She Blows!

All of my friends and loved ones in the path of Sandy - stay safe and warm.  It's effing cold out there!

We've got snow here in central Ohio, after high winds that sounded like a jet engine all night long.  No sleep.  Winds and snow are still blowing.  The roads are slick from all the rain freezing as the temp drops.  OMG, I just heard thunder ( Read more... )

Fortunately, we fared well in upstate Delaware, though our downstate beaches did not do so well. We lost power for a few hours last night, but it was quickly restored. I've gotta hand it to the power company this time around: they were prepared and are doing a great job. Also fortunate: it has not yet gotten cold enough here to turn on the heater. We have been doing quite well with just the fireplace. Of course, if the power goes, the fireplace does diddly-squat as far as internet access or blow-drying my hair. Electricity still has the upper hand!

I saw that a lot of Delaware was taking a pounding, so I'm glad to know you're safe, even if you did lose your electric for a bit. I guess it could've been worse. Lovely thing, fireplaces. You could always go the old-fashioned route and sit by the fire to dry your hair... but you might be there forever.

Yes, damn the electricity gods - we are firmly in their clutches. :(

But still good to know you're okay. *hugs*

Yeah, I'm not too crazy about this new LJ thing, either.

I, too, hope everyone is safe, dry and warm.

Hope your dad can find a new doc.

Yeah, I was like, WTF LJ? Ugh. I mean, I knew they were changing things, but this is stupid.

Are you getting anything where you are?

He'd BETTER find a new doc. The one he has now is older than dirt and a quack. Ugh.

It's much colder than Halloween should be (it's 43F now), windy and it may rain tonight. Nothing to worry about, but thanks for the concern. :)

We haven't seen more than flurries since we left Chicago... I can't imagine having snow THIS early.

Glad to know Sandy isn't be a bitch to you.

Did you used to live in Chicago? Even worse winters than here...

Oooh, thunder-snow :) I just looked at the map to see where she was sitting, and yep, she's right on top of PA but with a big ol' arm spread out over Ohio and Michigan -- I hope it passes over y'all quickly! So far Sandy's been a big fizzle here, just a little wind and rain. However, I have seen some awe-inspiring photos. Manhattan all dark has a weirdly post-apocalypse look to it...

Yeah, I was shocked! I've never heard thunder snow! I'm glad you're safe and sound though.

My mom was trying to contact a business in PA yesterday, and wondered why she couldn't get through. I told her most likely they were closed. I hope it passes quickly as well - we're beyond soggy and this wind is so bitterly cold. *brrrrr*

Now, where in NY are you? I've been in upstate NY, like around Schroon Lake (it was ridiculously snowy around Thanksgiving). And yes, I've seen pics from NJ! OMG

I bet it was eerie in darkened Manhatten. I hear that Wall Street had like 3 feet of water!

We're smack in the middle of the state, pretty much -- 150 miles from the eastern border, 170 miles from the western border, 75 miles from the northern/southern borders. Looks like almost everything's going south and west of us, thankfully!

I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at your icon. PERFECT!

Wow, you really are in the middle. Well, I'm glad it bypassed you. ;) Stay warm, hun!

Good to know you're alright bb but omg thunder snow! Yesterday Sandy hit MI with powerful winds like it pushed our garbage can out and it was cold and raining this morning. I'm wearing my hat, scarf, and mittens right after we had a 70 type day last week. ><

Stay warm, safe, and dry! Yay for Lucius very excited to read!

Yeah, I was shocked to hear it! I've never heard it before. Frankenstorm indeed.

You get pretty much what we get - so yeah, keep your mittens and hat on! Stay safe and warm. I hope you don't develope a sinus infection from the rapidly changing weather. I know a lot of people are developing that here. I feel sorry for the trick-or-treaters tomorrow night. :(

YAY LUCIUS!

Ugh my body is wrecking havoc because of it. It doesn't help that I had dental work last Friday and my mouth is sensitive to the cold ><. Why universe why? I'm just hoping I don't catch a cold since I'm going in and out of buildings until I go home. :(

I do too and I love Halloween! I'll still wear my black lipstick though and may stick some cat ears on my hat because reasons. :D

Woo Lucius! Hermione has been poking me for a story with Lucius or his son. XD I blame Lucius for this lol.
