I'm back to daydreaming about buying an apartment (which I do when I feel stuck, because I no longer have a bolthole). I've talked myself out of this every time because 1. I don't know how long I'm going to be here and 2. everything is ridiculously overpriced and due a correction

The market can stay ridiculously overpriced and due a correction for a lot longer than most of us can afford to wait for that correction, alas.

Not too bad, but your safest and best returns if you are likely to turn it into a rental soonish are very small inner city places which you can put a hefty deposit on or pay in full. The under 50sqm properties which are out of reach of anyone except investors are underpriced. These are under 200k properties. If you wanna chat more happy to suggest specific buildings.
