it's fucking stupid. a lot of companies do this. when i was working at HT a decade ago, things that were marked out of stock got taken out of the store and thrown away. i wasn't *allowed* to go into the dumpster and retrieve a perfectly functioning lime green chair thingy. wtf?
restaurants do it too. when i was working at pf chang's, they would throw out a few gallons of soup at the end of the night; understandably they shouldn't sell it the next day, but employees couldn't take a bit of it home - if we wanted it, we had to pay for it, regardless of the fact that it was going down the drain minutes later anyway. not to mention the endless nights where i verbally asked why it wasn't being donated to a shelter... they COULD eat it the next day.
oh i know they do it but i find it really messed up considering all the pro enviromental crap in the local stores as of late.
i even asked the manager if the dresser could just show up at the dumpster in 1/2 an hour and whatever "happened to it" happened.
i have no issue with the manager or any of the employees, they were actually very polite and were just obeying company policy which even the sales clerk agreed was pretty stupid and wastefull.
i was gonna say that a lot of companies do it, and Hot Topic was one that came to mind in particular. A lot of the employees around here used to bag them up and then have friends come by and grab stuff. Perfectly useful clothes just trashed!
Victoria's Secret does it with all their display stuff, and even testers. I'd assume all Limited Brands do it. It sucks. They should at least go to some sort of outlet!

I'm not even a big enviromentalist and I find that really wrong.
