Torchwood not-fic pimping

Jun 01, 2010 22:24

The Torchwood-related things I feel like pimping these days could be counted on the fingers of my armpit. Not that I don't think anyone's doing anything worth your time anymore: I'm sure they are, I'm just very picky about what really appeals to me these days, beyond a vague nod-and-move-on reaction ( Read more... )

I'm trying to cultivate nostalgic amusement in place of MAD BOILING RAEG on the grounds it'll be better for my liver in the long run.

It's always good to see you posting even if I think that we are, as Oscar said, two countries separated by a common language. That being said, can you translate your comment:

"GDL has been 52 shades of pillock"

I take it that this is more than the sideburns.

On a non-related topic, I remember reading re: the latest Dr. Who that Rory might as well be wearing a red shirt. Boy and Boy Howdy, you were so right. I really liked his character and what happened to him pissed me off. But we still have the ring so he might return?

Yes, I had that smug sense of Cassandra satisfaction about Rory. I thought he was sweet but I didn't waste time putting any emotional investment in him, and him going pfft, whether permanent or not, is timely anyway IMO, because the series this year is just not working for me. I saw the most recent two-parter and the blatant misogyny was off the scale. UGH ( ... )

Ah - thank you! Yes, I'd read a bit about some of GDL's behavior at cons which left a bit to be desired. There's a fan base that will put up with anything but I don't think he's got that kind of dedicated followers ( ... )

I think when I saw the first S3 spoiler pics, my reactiosn were mosrly "humina, nice suit!" But I did think at the time that his face wasn't quite the right shape, though I couldn't put my finger on why. I mean, there ARE sideburns of sorts still there - just sad, emasculated ones when compared to the rampaging beasts of the first two years.

These picspams are good, yes, I recommend them. They're done in the right spirit - celebratory without handwaving the elephant in the room. I know they made me happy - then again, I'm not out of love as much as I'm still and perpetually furious about the actual break-up, if you like.

Ah, you youngsters and your jargon. Please translate for this oldster - what does "coc oen" mean in plain English?

The picpspam is a timely reminder of just why so many of us fell for Ianto. Thank goodness for the S1 and S2 episodes, frozen moments in time that we can appreciate forever, especiall since, as you say, any more TW is appearing remoter and remoter.

If there is a fourth season of Torchwood now, under any ownership, I'll kiss RTD's arse - I'm that certain it won't happen, I can promise that without any fear. The momentum has gone, the crew and what's left of the cast are scattered, and Rusty's big gamble on Fox flunked out completely. Why would any non-BBC maker pick up the Fox leftovers, nearly two years after the last series was filmed? And it was always a curate's egg for the Beeb - again, I can't see why they would be interested creatively in ploughing old ground so long after it's all gone cold. So yes, I agree with you - my strategy now seems to consist of thinking fondly of the first two years, and mentally pretending that last year was simply never broadcast. Mm, Egypt is lovely at this time of year!

("Coc oen" is a Welsh slang term for 'bastard' - literally, it means lamb's prick. Allegedly much more offensive than bastard, but I have yet to try it out on any Welsh people so that might be an urban myth. ;-) )

You're welcome, and ITA. They kind of filled a yearning I hadn't realised I still had so much. Odd, eh!
