Mayan Calendar ending:

Imagine for a moment that you have thirteen fingers, so everytime you reach the thirteenth count, you would add another column to your number, and you have 13 symbols to choose from, 0-9 !,@,#. (in that order for this example). Now the Mayan Calendar's dating for the day before the apocalypse is

#,###,###,### or something like that. Add 1 to that, and you'd get 10,000,000 (base 13) which would look really cool in a base 13 system. This is basically what happens to give credence to the Mayan apocalypse, as I understand it.

My question is: why would base 13 be so significant to the Mayan way of systeming their calendar together?

Hmmmm... between the world's end and the number 13... the only way the apocalypse could be any more fun would be for the world to end on that very special Friday.
