I had intended to spend my day starting the ketbah over from scratch. (Yes, I hate it that much.)
Instead, ended up spending the day dealing with an overflowing toilet. It broke between 9:30 and 10:30 this morning, and by 11:00 I had called in a plumber. (I went with Brothers Plumbing. For those who know, yes, that's exactly why I picked them, since I didn't have any other deciding factors I could use.) While waiting for the plumber to arrive I entertained myself by using my dad's old Bissel to try and get some of the water out of the carpet, with what turned out to be no success.
The plumber arrived at 1:00 or so and after a look at the bathroom took a snake to the main line of the house. He left at 3:30 after determining that the problem actually wasn't mine. Or rather the cause wasn't anything I could control - seems the city line to my house and everyone else to the north and south of me are having the same issues. So while the end result is my problem, I didn't cause it.
Right now I'm waiting for the city to come and 1) turn off the water so the sewage will stop seeping into my house and 2) fix the problem.
Obviously this means I have to do something about my carpet. It is ruined and not even worth cleaning until I can afford to get it replaced. Fortunately, as one of my neighbors reminded me, I live on a concrete slab. It won't be pretty, but I can pull the carpet out and have something to walk on that aren't floorboards. That's going to happen Monday night, starting right after work. Anyone who feels like coming by and helping me move furniture (or things inside the furniture so that the big pieces can be moved) feel free to come by. I'll do my best to feed you.
I'm just hoping that the city gets this dealt with quickly, so I don't also end up having to replace any of my furniture as well.
