Further adventures in plumbing.

May 18, 2009 02:18

For those who know me very well, yes, that time stamp is indeed correct.  It really is almost 2:30 in the morning, and yes, I'm still awake.  But hopefully not for much longer.

The HOA called another plumber and they finally left at 1:50, after clearing the pipes enough for me and anyone else in my fourplex and the fourplex to the south to use their facilities.  For now.  There's still more work to be done however.  But the short of it is, the problem is in the leg of pipes that come out of those two units before they link up to the main sewar junction for the cityl

I did go gaming tonight because there was no reason for me to sit here and watch the water creep.  This little break had several advantages, including finally getting food into by body, and both gaming guys bringing me back to the house before we got started and helping me get all the big heavy furniture that I couldn't lift myself up onto bricks.  The only piece I'm sure is a lost cause is the cheap particile board shelving unit under the stairs with all the teapots on it.  It was free and easily replacable so I'm not troubled about it.  Everything else from the couches to the breakfront and dining room table however, I worried about.  Things wouldn't have been that good without their help.

Besides calling the HOA before I left to play, I also called my insurance companhy and started a claim.  I'll be calling the claims person tomorrow after I wake up (the alarm is turned off and I already called in to work) now that the water has stopped flowing.  It got half the living room, a third of the dining room, the closet and about a third of the way under the stairs.  The hall and bathroom really don't bear thinking about and I'm a little afraid the water seeped into the base of the kitchen pantry cabinets.  Tonmorrow is probably going to be terribly ... interesting.

So, on the bright side of all this, I'm probably getting the new carpet I was thinking about doing next year, since the stuff I have is unsalvageable.  And I've met all my  new neighbors to the north.  And I've spent a lot of "quality time" with my opposite number neighbors to the south.  (They have the same unit I do, and they stayed up to watch the plumbers work, too.)

Yeah, I'm reaching pretty hard for some of those silver linings.  But really everything is all right.  A little disgusting, a little frustrating, but I still have a house, and the insurance is going to cover repairing the damage.  The only scary thing there is that just last week I went in to increase my coverage...  At least none of the things I mentioned I was increasing it to protect were damaged in the event.
