Rounding the Fourth Turn

Jun 17, 2009 06:40

The general contractor came over at 8:30 to move the furniture and the carpet layers showed up about ten minutes later.  Once everything was moved out, I got the heck out of Dodge, taking a brief detour on the way to work to shop for a new vanity and counter top for the bathroom with the general contractor.

At around 11:00 I got a call from the carpet guy I'd been working with before, who told me they may have to replace my bathroom floor, since the new vanity we got was too big for the space left by the old one (which me and the cad had carefully tiled around, since it was staying in place due to budget constraints.)  I honestly thought I'd measured correctly, but I'm having a feeling now that I've seen everything in place that maybe I didn't.

This potential glitch was worked out, more or less, without demolishing the floor and the bathroom is almost finished.  All that remains is wallpaper and paint on one wall, and installing the new faucet I had to go get, since mine was a four inch unit and the counter top I got required an eight inch one.  That will happen this morning.  The wallpaper can happen once I find my "pattern" (or an equivalent), and I'll simply install and paint it myself.  The final thing I'll need in there is a standing toilet paper roll stand, since I don't want to damage the new unit by cutting a hole in it to install the old TP holder.

And now I'm into the home stretch:  bringing furniture back downstairs, deciding what to keep and what to give to Goodwill, hanging pictures, etc.  I also still need to get a price to the insurance company to replace the carpet runner that was in my hallway, which is proving more difficult than I expected.  It was bigger than the usual runners sold today.

June 14, 2009, painting completed by yours truly.  The southern walls were handled by the general contractor several days before.

Bathroom before demolition.

June 16, 2009 Bathroom painted and new vanity and counter top installed.  I've decided not to paint it black after all.
