Learning What I Want

May 17, 2011 06:59

In the very short term I really want every electronic and mechanical thing I own to stop having parts break on them.  Like the microwave dying six months ago (although it still functions as a clock, a timer, and a fan) and the knob to my car radio coming off in my hand last night (which is just one more thing in a series of minor and not so minor things wearing out on the vehicle).

Since I can't have that, I'll settle for being able to afford replacements or repairs to the things I can't function without.  Right now, that's the stove.  Over the last month, one of the main burners I've been using has been sparking intermittently and sometimes doesn't want to heat; another doesn't seem to be heating up enough.  Two burners down is one too many, so buying a new range is an immediate pressing need.

I want to make the purchase by the end of the week.  To that end, I started officially shopping last night to see what was out there in the price range I'd settled on.

Turns out there are more things available available on stoves these days than I ever thought.  Nifty things like two-burners-in-one, warming burners, hidden heating elements in the oven, and dual ovens in the same space as a standard range.  So now I have have to first figure out what sorts of things I want and then narrow it down to what I am willing to settle for because we all know I can't really afford what I want.

Despite having definite cost limitations these new (to me) innovations means I have chosen to slightly more than double the price point from where I started because, while I know I can't have the $1200 stove with the dual ovens and other nifty things, I think I'm no longer willing to simply settle for the standard electric stove with four coil burners and a clock.

I looked at K-Mart and Sears (the really useful one of the two) yesterday.  Tonight, Home Depot again, and probably Lowes on Wednesday.  And I have to find the Sears Scratch-and-Dent place downtown on Osage at some point.  And masahide told me about another place up by him that I need to visit the name of which completely escapes me, probably on Friday.

Thus begins the whirlwind stove purchasing spree.  I'm so excited.  {sigh}
