Life in the Time of Pollen

Apr 12, 2011 16:20

I actually worked today, and minus one small woozy moment, got through my 6 hour shift fine. I'm still sick, but I have Wed and Thursday off to finish the recovery. Of course, once the cold is gone, I still have the allergies to deal with, but at least I'll be stronger. I'm a horrible person when I'm sick. I refuse to admit I am sick, push myself ( Read more... )

music, work, dropkick, history, plague, i can't help my pubilc history condition

Ha, I also love the detail with Lew refering to Runner as 'Will'. I tossed that up before in that old reunion fic of mine, but it didn't fit in, so I let it slide.

It's awesome that I wasn't the only person to think of it (I mean, it's the most natural nickname to come out of Wilbur, really. But you know what I mean.)

I'm in love with this even more now 8D

We just have a collectively awesome hive-mind.

Hoosier sometimes calls Runner Wilbur in this canon (mostly to mock him), but everyone knows "Will" is reserved for Lew's use only and if anyone else even tries there will be raised fists and black eyes.

I just think it's funny that Runner had, like, three names. All of them his nicknames before the war, and it's like, "which one do I choose."

/High five!

Ha, I can practically see a moment when some newcomer unknowingly refers to Runner as Will, and both he and Chuckler just stare. One confused, and the other unimpressed. I'M SORRY, GIBSON, BUT YOU ARE THIS PERSON.

Obvs Runner is the type of person who gets saddled with a new nickname by every person he meets. That or, not that I'm sure if he'd be the kind of person who'd trouble himself with it, but maybe he isn't terribly fond of his own name? (I only say this because I hated the name my parents gave me and went by a million of other names before settling on Nat(alie). Got it legally changed and everything, lol).

Gibson is so that person. Clearly this fic needs to be written.

I think you're right about Runner. I have two friends who are the exact same way and they names they picked for themselves fit them so much better. I actually consider myself lucky that I love my name, and that my whole name fits me. Which, considering my grandparents came up with it on the fly, I really did luck out.

sdfdf See, Gibson would have this one-sided crush on Runner and, though he knows he's unattainable, he tries to get into his good graces. ...But not very well. Are you going to write it, Shan? Or am I going to have to write fic of fic of fic.

I can't imagine you anything but a Shannon! 8) Yeah, I'm not sure where my mother picked her name for me up, but seeing as she got my sister's from a news anchor, I can't imagine it was very inspired. 8/

You can so write fic of fic of fic, or we can have like, "The Adventures of Gibson: Forever Alone" where we both write on his sad attempts to get into Runner's good graces. B/c you so know there's going to be a karaoke one where he tries to seduce Runner through music.

I was going to be an Emily, but then my mom had surprise!twins. My brother got named after a family friend, my sister after Caroline Kennedy/"Sweet Caroline." I got my name from my grandparents' recent trip to Ireland/my Aunt's middle name. I'm actually the only one in the family who's nicknames contain my middle name. You know it's family calling when they address me as either "Miss Lee" or "Shanny-Lee."

Oh, God. The Adventures of Gibson... Trying so hard not laugh right now. He thinks he's being subtle about it, but only it's blantantly obvious and Chuckler has to try very, very hard to refrain from decking him because, well, look at him. He's like the runt of the litter, who follows all the cool kids round.

Leckie likes to tease Runner about it, too. Imitating Gibson where he can, 'hey, Runner. How's it going,' 'hey, Runner, are you free for lunch?', 'hey, Runner. I got you that slice you like at the bake store when I was running errands.' 'the one halfway across town? but i thought you only had to get pencils.'

Sweet Caroline! I love that song. Ha, I did wonder if you had 'Lee' involved in your name somehow, considering how much you use it.

The Adventures of Gibson is going to be like, my new distracting ficlet place because I love all those ideas. In the modern au, where Runner and Hoosier work at NCIS, on a team with Poke and led by Hoosier, Gibson is SO going to be the new probie (new trainee officer).

And Chuckler so wants to say something, but he can't because, "Aww, cute." And Hoosier can only see a little puppy and even he's not that heartless. So it will finally be Ray Person who says something at least once a week because, my god, someone needs to. Not that it will ever stop Gibson and his unending pining.

Yeah, when I first started on the internet, my first e-mail address ever (back in like, 1993, omg) was based off my "miss lee" nickname, so it just seemed like a natural place to go with everything fandom related.

HELL YEAH! And, lol!! Ray would so be the only person who'd ever say anything.

'Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you? He's married. Good as married, you dumb hick. Okay, look. Here's some money, buy a hooker.'

'I'm not sure if I should be doing that on company time...'

'I'll cover for you. Blonde with huge tits, got it.'

Lmfao, my first email was daggett_rulz. So glad I didn't continue with that trend. That said, 1993!! I think I got mine in like, uh, 2000/2001. 1993. Wow. I was six 8|

Oh god, there are going to be SO MANY Gibson ficlets now.

And at least five of those ficlets will be with Ray trying to set Gibson up with every type of hooker he knows. Then finally giving up and calling Colbert in for some help, because, seriously, he even tried setting Gibson up with the local NAMBLA chapter and that didn't work.

When we first move to North Carolina in '93 we got a new comptuer. It came with aol, back when you PAID for it. And dial-up. I was 9, so young, so innocent, so easily finding the yahoo group mailing lists. Ugh. I feel so old right now.

I was blocked on the larger fic so yeah, um I already sort of started one?

“Hey,” Runner said as he walked in the door. He gave Lew a quick kiss before settling down beside him on the couch. “What’re you watching?”

“Some documentary on walking in the footsteps of Jesus or something.” Chuckler rested his hand on the back of Runner’s neck, running his finger along the hairline. “How was work?”

“Um, different,” he said. “We got a new probationary officer.”

“Good different or bad different?”

“Idealistic Youth different. I swear, the kid’s smaller than I am. Poke’s calling him Frodo.”

Chuckler laughed. “Hey, the height and the idealism won’t matter if he can do his job. He gets you shot at though, and I will destroy his life.”

Runner snorted. “And to think, so men just give flowers. The death threats make me feel all the more loved.”

“Flowers die, but death threats last forever.”

I almost feel bad for Gibson. ALMOST.

Actually, scratch that. I feel bad for Poke who is going to have to work with this every single day, constantly banging his head against his desk and wondering why he didn't just go back to towing cars.
