A random list of books on Roman History that no one will care about unless there name is Kay.

Literature and Philosophy

Gochberg, Donald S. Classics of Western Thought: Volume I: The Ancient World, Fourth Edition.

Pritchard, James B., ed. The Ancient Near East: Volume I: An Anthology of Texts and Pictures.

Virgil. The Aeneid.

History

Adkins, Lesley and Roy A. Adkins. Handbook to Life in Ancient Rome.

Balsdon, J.P.V.D. Life and Leisure in Ancient Rome.

Boren, Henry C. Roman Society, Second Edition.

Grant, Michael. The Twelve Caesars.

Flexner, Doris and Stuart Berg Flexner. The Pessimist’s Guide to History: An Irresistible Compendium of Catastrophes, Barbarities, Massacres, and Mayhem-From 14 Billion Years Ago to 2007.

Liberati, Anna Maria and Fabio Bourbon. Ancient Rome: History of a Civilization That Ruled the World.

Mertz, Richard and Barbara. Two Thousands Years in Rome.

Shelton, Jo-Ann. As The Romans Did: A Sourcebook in Roman Social History, Second Edition.

Wells, Colin. The Roman Empires, Second Edition.

Whittaker, C.R. Frontiers of the Roman Empire: A Social and Economic Study.

And one special book, it didn’t start my obsession with Ancient Rome, as by the time I got it, I’d already started what would turn into a decade of Latin. This book did, however, take me from thinking about a future as just an English teacher or a librarian to wanting a future in history.

Oliphant, Margaret. The Atlas of the Ancient world: Charting the Great Civilizations of the Past.

Kay, I have had this book since you were 3 years old. In it is a note from my mother, as she gave it to me for Christmas of 1996. Dear Shannon, I hope this book brings you some wisdom from the past to help you build your future, With my love, Mom. Little did she know then, one BA and one MA in History later, I’d be using this book to research my….fanfic.
