I am a very lonely person since being dumped and I keep AIM on pretty much all the time in hopes that someone, somewhere would like to chat with good ol' Steve. Ok, it's always the same bunch of people, but, sadly, it is the extent of my outside contact

AIM is not the best program.
Try Trillian.

I seem to be using a lot of really crappy programs. :P I'm not overly computer literate.

It's not so much a problem anymre, but when I turned off my computer before I couldn't connect to the internet unless I unplugged my modem and waited before plugging it back in. Now that only happens when the power goes out.

Also, I managed to get into an outdated version of AIM and it worked alright.

Oh dear... that's no good. Jeremiah's right, try Trillian, it's got heck of features AIM doesn't. Plus, AIM's been getting progressively uglier.

Incidentally, I'd like to apologize for never ever being on AIM. Quite honestly, I'd forgotten of its very existence.

It's ok for never being on AIM. I'll look into this Trillian thing, but it would probably be a good idea to get a new computer since this one no longer accepts CDs or DVDs and acts like a bitch on a frequent basis.

My advice is wait for a sale at such as Best Buy or something, but not on a terribly shitty something. If you can, wait until the day after Thanksgiving and be there at like 5 in the morning.
