Hikaru frowned at the sight he saw. Kei wasn’t gonna like this. He had to think of something quick.

The fourteenth of February two thousand and nine... Everyone knew what that meant. Two words: Valentine’s Day. It was a holiday in honor of Saint Valentine and of course it was meant for lovers and their love for each other.
Inoo Kei looked around him and saw people holding hands and staring intimately at each another. He didn’t look all that pleased with them. It was just another tiring, ordinary and good for nothing day for him.
Lot’s of people were selling chocolates and flowers. Is it me or is almost everything around me red? He thought as he walked past them.
He did his usual routine and went to school for the day. As he expected, people used this day to express their love. Being the idol that he was, he received a lot of chocolates from girl and boys… Yes, boys. He was used to this. It wasn’t his fault he attracted both boys and girls right? He accepted each of them politely and smiled as they gave it to him.
He didn’t really give much importance to all these chocolates he got. Yes, of course he was happy but not that happy. He wanted something special to be happy. Was this gonna be another Valentine’s Day surrounded with friends only? He then decided to give up thinking and just give in to the obvious answer: Yes.
Or so he thought…

Kei was about to leave school when he saw a familiar face just beside the gates of his school. He tried to have a better view of the person he saw as he neared him. After being certain who that person was, Kei semi-screamed his name to call his attention.
“Hikaru!” Kei said as he waved his hand for Hikaru to see him amidst the crowd.
Hikaru looked at his direction and smiled his usual goofy grin. He took a deep breath and spoke.
“Inoo-chan!” the joker said as he walked towards Inoo.
“What are you doing here?” the older boy asked, a bit hopeful.
“Well, I was thinking… Do you want to eat out today?” the younger boy asked as he scratched the back of his head.
Kei swore his heart skipped a beat. Eat out? Just the two of them? ON VALENTINE’S DAY? Wait no, maybe that’s just a friendly dinner. They were close so it’s normal right? But he did take the trouble of going to his school, fetch him and ask him out. Was he just thinking too much? He hoped not. Wait, what did he say?
“Sure thing.” Inoo managed to say despite his deep thoughts.
“Let’s go!” Hikaru said as he pulled Inoo to the direction he wanted.
They ate at their favorite ramen restaurant and chatted like there was no tomorrow. They had practice later at 7 but that was the least of their concerns. They still had one hour and the jimusho was only ten minutes away so they had all the time in the world.
Kei was so happy but he couldn’t help but think why Hikaru did this. The waiter gave them their bill as she smiled.
“My treat.” The smaller boy said as he took out his wallet.
“Wait, what? I don’t mind paying half of it.” Inoo said, confused.
“I was the one who invited you out so I guess it’s kinda my obligation, doncha think?” Hikaru said with a “duh” tone.
Kei only managed to nod. What was happening? Hikaru was being so kind to him. It just isn’t normal. Something’s not right. Was he just being paranoid? His thoughts were disrupted by Hikaru’s voice.
“Inoo-chan?” the younger boy asked. “Did you listen to anything I said?”
“Uhh… huh? Sorry, no.” Inoo said a bit flustered.
“As I was saying… Why don’t we ditch practices today? It is Valentine’s Day and it’s boring to spend it with the other members.”
Inoo tried to breathe as normal as possible. Why was he feeling like this? What was Hikaru saying? Is this the special thing he wanted?
“No, I don’t think so. Yabu will kill us.” Inoo said, looking away. He had to hide his red cheeks from Hikaru.
Hikaru sighed and stood up.
“Okay, you’re the boss. Let’s go. It’s already fifteen minutes to seven.” Hikaru said as he took Inoo’s bag.
“I can carry my own bag, thank you very much.” Kei said as he tried to grab his bag from Hikaru. He then skillfully got away from Inoo and ran outside.
The older boy decided to ignore Hikaru and got back from his thoughts. So… what was the real reason behind this? He tried to think but he was again interrupted by Hikaru’s voice.
“Inoo-chan! Hurry up!” the younger boy shouted as he waved his hand.
Kei just followed Hikaru without much enthusiasm due to his deep thoughts. They arrived in the Jimusho just in time.
Yabu, being the oldest and the supposedly most responsible, was already there. He was reading a random magazine about them. Hikaru sneaked up behind him and looked at the page he was reading.
“Yabu… Why are you looking at the page about you?” Hikaru said as he snickered.
“Wh- Hikaru? When did you guys arrive? You scared me!” Yabu said as he closed the magazine.
“Longer than you know. You’re not trying to change the topic, are you? So, Mr. Narcissist, what were you doing looking at yourself?” Hikaru said with a wide grin.
“Na- Inoo! What are you doing there at the dark corner, all alone?” Yabu said as he ran to Inoo.
“Nee, Inoo-chan, you’ve been acting weird ever since this afternoon.” Hikaru said as he walked towards them. Yabu inwardly congratulated himself in successfully making Hikaru forget about it.
“Yabu-kun, Johnny-san wants to talk to you.” The manager said while opening the door. Yabu then excused himself and went out.
“So, Inoo chan,” Hikaru said as he sat down next to Kei. “...What’s up?”
“Hikaru… you’re abnormally kind today…” Kei said in a frank tone. Hikaru was dumbfounded. Sometimes, Kei was frank… too frank.
“Umm… I… I mean… we… I…” a stuttering Hikaru said as he tried to find words. Kei was waiting for him to say it. Just say it, darn it!
Silence then overcame both of them. No one tried to speak. No one tried to start. When Hikaru was about to speak, Yamada entered the room and showed a broken iPod.
“Hikaru-kun, here’s Inoo-chan’s broken iPod you told me to keep.”
Hikaru twitched and Yamada, after realizing what he did, closed the door.
“HI-KA-RU.”
