so here's what you do: when your roommate's out of the house, take her to a vet, get her microchipped with your name and address, and then insist that she's your cat because now you have proof!
Realistically, it seems like your roommate isn't giving her what she needs. Have you thought about telling him how much you like her, how well you two connect and interact and asking if he might feel unburdened if she had a new home with you? I gave up a cat to my ex-boyfriend even though he's a douche because she was far happier with him than with me - she just never bonded with me and connected well with him. I dunno. It just doesn't really seem like your roommate wants to take care of a cat, yanno?
I wonder if he will volunteer this when we split up... I dunno. It's obvious how she feels about me... and I love this cat to death. Right now she's sitting in the middle of my floor happy as can be - purring even. But... he can be pretty self centered and right now I think he might be a little depressed. I don't think losing his cat would help things at this point...
Then again... I've never loved a cat so much :c( Purrrr
PS. Does your cat have a "house"? It bothers me that she doesn't have a little den or something... just a scratching post.
