Haven't been posting here very often, mostly I've been using my MT Blog. But I've decided to start cross posting again.

My last update was quite a while ago, and I figure that I should throw one out since my life has been fairly eventful in the past month or so.

I'm enjoying my job immensely. I can't say that I look forward to waking up every day, but once I'm up, I certainly don't complain about going to work. Medical insurance and the possiblity of a safe car doesn't hurt either.

I flew out to Vegas this year to go to DefCon. A good time was had by all, or at least most. Much time was spent hanging around with esigler and mallen. Matt met a guy named Carl from London who was really cool. All in all, a decent trip.

The weekend before this last one consisted of a trip to Bloomington Indiana to attend a concert by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. Kat's brother-in-law is David Baker, the conductor and a really great guy. Friday consisted of driving to Bloomington with Matt after work. On Saturday we had lunch at David's house with the orchestra members, and Saturday night was spent at the concert. It was great. The theme was the evolution of big band swing from the mid 1940 to today. The music was great and there were some really amazing solos as well.

I only really have three types of music that I really want to see live. The first is jazz. I'm pretty sure that I've seen the top end of that. Not to say that I won't be seeing any more jazz concerts in the future, but I've been to what could be one of the greatest performances someone of my generation is likely to see.

The second is Jimmy Buffett. I'm a little-league parrothead.

The third is Frank Sinatra. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I'm SOL on this one. I didn't really get into the Jazz/Lounge style until he was already dead, but that would be one hell of a show.

This last weekend I went up to St. Louis because my dad had just had knee replacement surgery. They did the job on Wednesday and he came home on Saturday. It's going to be a long road to recovering all of his range of motion, but I know he's up to it. I can't remember anything that he has had any control over that he hasn't been able to do.

Also while in St. Louis I attended the wedding of one of my high school friends. Erin Cooper married her fiancé Pat at Tower Grove Park in St. Louis. It was a very nice ceremony. I've only met Pat a few times before, but I know that Cooper knows what she's doing. I wish them a long and healthy life together.

Finally, while in St. Louis, I had to run out of the reception to be picked up by Kat and taken to a different party downtown. Some of her college friends (the SLoungers), were getting together with other friends for a private birthday party for 3 members of the group. They took over the Downtown Cantina (little Mexican place, good food, good atmosphere) for an evening of food, drink, and great conversation.

After that weekend, I drove home starting at about 4pm Sunday afternoon. On a Cardinals game day. I swung south around 270/255 to avoid downtown, but it didn't help me. I get back around to 55 North, and I hit stoppages. For no reason. There's no accidents, but occasionally there's people pulled to the side of the road.

Surrounded by hundreds of drunks in red shirts. Just what I needed on my drive home. Thankfully it spread out to normal after a while, and was totally dispersed by the time I got to Springfield Illinois.

That's been about the extent of it.
