Everyone seems to be grading themselves on their New Year's resolutions from last year. I can't find mine, so huzzah for that.
I had a lot of fun at New Years, cooking, eating, talking, etc. It was good to see people again. I will say that wasabi vodka is incredibly overrated. Before the chorus of "Well DUH" reaches me, a few things in my defense. We were cooking all asian type food, including sushi. Many of the employees at the liquor store where said vodka was purchased were quite enthusiastic in their positive reviews of this particular beverage. Finally, the wasabi in question was 'real wasabi', the ground up remains of the green wasabi root/rhyzome/whatever, having nothing to do with horseradish.
The smell was very light and interesting, and the first taste had the merit of being an original (not bad) flavor that I had not experienced before. However, it just wasn't that tasty in my opinion. It seemed to shine most in Bloody Mary's. As I do not drive with open containers even in my trunk on New Year's Eve, it remained at Matt and Beth's. The food was tasty, and mostly hassle-free as we've gotten into the swing of buying things pre-prepared instead of forming giant assembly lines to make 100's of potstickers ourselves. My only real culinary contributions to the evening were making the fried rice, slicing the tuna for sushi, and making a few pieces of nigiri.
I believe it should be noted that I'm getting old or something. I had two beverages the entire evening. A lightish asian beer, and a little bit of the wasabi vodka.
Sleeping in late the next day, I had planned to go to Lion's Choice with Kat and Alpha Clone. Upon getting to the intersection of Olive and Old Olive, Kat and I saw a car stalled, as it had pulled onto Old Olive. Being the nice guy that I am, I said, "We should help them out." Kat agreed.
Pain ensued. Pushing a medium sized car uphill, even with help, is work for people in better shape than myself. Once we had gotten the car into the parking lot for the California Pizza Kitchen, Kat and I stumbled back to my car. After a coughing fit, and listening to our vital organs and legs protest our late actions, we drove to the gas station across the street, and got some water. What followed was a lot of "We shouldn't have done that." Next time, I'll ask them if they need me to call a tow truck. When you exert yourself and start tasting blood, it's a bad thing. On the plus side, neither of us dropped dead. I got my Lion's Choice (beef broth good for torn up throats), and got on the road.
Arriving back in Morton at 10pm, I had time to go to Kroger and spent 45 cents on a can of black eyed peas. Finally getting back to the apartment, I ascended the stairs, heated a bowl of black eyed peas and collard greens, and sat down to relax.
New Years Resolutions:
Lose weight (again) Specifically, get down to at least 215.
Less stress. Nothing makes me more unhappy and will shorten my life more than stress.
Continue with the financial responsibility. Keep saving money, and try to make it work for me.
And now it is bed time. Good night everyone. Hope this year is better than the last.
