The vet changed Angel's medicine again. Now she's on prednisone very other day to help with the sore throat from all the coughing and furosemide twice daily for fluid in her right lung (which she heard rattling around again). I figured it wasn't emphysema, considering it kind of started suddenly rather than creeping up on us ( Read more... )

She's OK right now, though -- better than she's been in a week, actually. And hopefully we're on the right track with this stuff. But now I'm realizing I'd better make Bella work out a little more before her vet visit in May.-

Yea, really, keeping weight is important for pets too!

I hate to say this to you BUT:
Your poor dog eats what YOU give her.

Feed your dog a diet amount once a day. AND NO MORE!
You're killing her!

Our nine pound, 14 year old miniature poodle Taffy, when she's on a diet, and she's always on a diet gets:

1) 1/2 oz. cooked rice.
2) 2oz 'Hills Prescription Diet WD' canned food.
3) 2oz chicken broth.
4) 1oz dry 'Science diet'

Once a day at 6:00pm. NOTHING ELSE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH SHE BEGS.

This keeps her at between 9-1/2 and 9-3/4 pounds all the time.

I cheat and add a tablespoon of Half and Half once in a while. Mary gives her a rawhide chew stick once in awhile.

She has gotten to as much as 15 pounds. She's really unhealthy at that weight. The difference in her activity level from fat to thin is striking.

After our big dog died, we realized we were feeding Angel way too much. She's lost since then, but put some back on in the last month or so.
