The old Polish guy in Rome

Does anyone want to make any predictions about how long the mourning period will be when His Holiness finally kicks the bucket? I could really use some time off. My gut says this country will come to a screaching halt.

Probably quite a while since he means so much to the people...

He means so much to the people that in fact there are some italians who believe he died a few years back and they just switched him without telling anyone. intersting theory. i'm calling it again if he lives another year even. he should have been dead a long time ago.

Can you tell i'm not catholic? Sorry if it sounds insensitive...

I remember when someone found out I was from Canada the first thing that came to their mind was that the pope visited there not too long ago.

As you can probably tell from the tone of my question, I am not catholic either.

Here in England, that was a popular theory about the Queen Mum. My money was on "so pickled in gin 50 years ago that she'll never die". Obviously, I turned out to be wrong.

this really depends...if his breathing restrictions were due to parkinson's, it wouldn't shock me if there was black smoke over the vatican sometime before the autumn had passed.

on the other hand, he's a tough old coot and could hang around for a few more years, tho i don't see it being much more than that as a best case scenario.

i think italy will grind to a screeching halt. if lucky, all of catholicism will grind to a screeching halt, will take the rest of christianity with it...get out, wander around a bit to collect itself, and discover that the car keys have gone missing...permanently.

I've lost track - where in Italy are you? Because northern Italy could well keep functioning. But if you're in the Rome area, you might be onto a winner.

Unless of course your company deploys you elsewhere during the down time.

Right now I am in Foggia, due east of Napoli, near the eastern coast, right in the spur. I am supposed to be headed back up north to Lodi for a month Real Soon Now (tm). If the job site shuts down (I doubt it) I am headed somewhere nice and warm for a vacation.

Woudn't surprise me, I'm guessing at least a week. Good luck with your impending holiday.

Double I guess. That does kinda suck but for the 800MB I have uploaded. $4 a month is still well within my budget.
