It would sound bizarre to say, "Cheer up, they may lay you off yet,", but in all seriousness, the fact that a "new" supervisor chose to keep you on, says a LOT about how well-respected you are and how much they think of your abilities.
Even if it does mean a H*** of a lot more work.
I'll be sending you a care-package, ok? In the meanwhile, Dr. Jones' prescription is lots and lots and LOTS of chocolate to drive the job-dementors away.
It's the most uncomfortable feeling, being left behind. Yes, you're still employed, but your workload triples, and you feel guilty for having taken someone else's job. Um. I've been through this a time or two, corporate mergers and all. People who are laid off are miserable, but theirs is of a short duration, because soon, they'll be leaving it all behind, and you'll be left.
That makes it seem much worse doesn't it?
The good news? You're still employed, which in this economic climate is saying something. It also means, you'll be a little freer to organize and prioritize your workload. Maybe.
My dear, while we don't speak often, I'll be thinking of you and wishing you well. It will be much better when you don't have to face those who are leaving on a day-to-day basis.
