New member of the family
Well, we went ahead and got a dog on Saturday. The new guy is a West Highland Terrier, apparently mixed with a little Bichon since his hair is much silkier and curlier than a regular Westie. However, he has the same square build, face and ears of a Westie, and much of the same attitude. They come with lots of attitude, most of it good

My poor German Shepherd is getting old and arthritic, but in a neighborhood like mine we NEED a big dog, and I don't go in for anything remotely "pit bull", or even Doberman, and while Labs are sweet, they're not quite the effect I'm looking for. I hadn't thought abuot a shelter. If it's as inexpensive as that I'll have to take a look -- A G.S. puppy is literally thousands of dollars.
Hope Henry isn't allergic!
Maybe you ought to have a naming contest on LJ? That could be amusing, and you might get some good ideas.
