this article came out today and basically said that Kathleen Kennedy got shot down by the Mouse for asking for an extension for Ep 7's release. Things cited in the article were Kathleen and Abrams bickering over casting decisions and Arndt spending too much time (and money) working on script rewrites. The thing is, there were catastrophes in the past: sandstorms wrecking the sets of TPM and ANH, ILM blowing a million dollars and getting only two usable shots done for ANH (because they were lazy hippies then), TESB going way over budget and over schedule, British crews working only on union-set schedules, Australian crews refusing to work weekends, etc.. But no matter what, Lucas always got it all done. On time. He made sure of it.
The problem is it looks like there's no captain of the ship and instead you've got conflicting egos and interests. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
From a PR perspective, this isn't good at all. Nobody wants the whiff of "troubled" to hang over your production. They need to get their business together and fast.
