Furry Budgeting Decisions

Mar 16, 2011 19:25

This past week, I finally received my tax return for 2010. I don't feel comfortable discussing the amount on it, so let's just say it is sufficiently sizeable to increase my "fun" expense line for the remainder of the year.

How could I spend it? I could try to go to a second convention this year: as my last journal notes, I had a lot of fun at Furnal Equinox this past weekend, and plan to go again next year; with FE 2012 exactly one year away, this leaves a huge gap in my convention calendar that I might like to fill.

I also feel (okay, this seems to happen after every con, and usually passes when I stop wanting to spend the money) that I would have fun in a fursuit. While my last attempt came to a screeching halt due to my lack of skill, I could try again … or I could bite the bullet and commission a fursuit.

At the same time, I have a condo that I will be buying in 2013 when it is finished being built; Every bit I save would eventually go towards a larger down payment, reducing my P+I mortgage payments and easing budget room down the road. While both of the above spending plans won't blow the entire sum of money, it may be worth considering saving a larger portion of it towards this goal.

Some notes:
On question 2, my character is a canine toon with floppy ears, and this shape and style should be taken into account when making suggestions. Builders in southern Ontario (followed by the rest of Canada) are favoured.
On question 3, since I live in southern Ontario, Canadian conventions are easier to get to, since I would otherwise need a passport.
