Holy Heck, Batman

My parents were just informed by Con-Ed (their power company) today that their electric won't be back anywhere from 1 week to 1 month from now. Yes, you read that right, 1 MONTH. The problem with electric being out is your boiler won't work, which means not only no power but no heat, and then you need to worry about your pipes freezing, it is not ( Read more... )

One month, that's crazy!! It's lucky that they have places to stay, though. I hope it's sorted quickly, and good luck with the final moving push!

Oh can you give me your mailing addy? I'm determined to send a few care packages off to Japan before I move. :D

I'm glad my parents have places to stay, but it is just so unbelievable that they might not have power for so long. I am glad we can help.

Oh yikes. That's crazy! Your mom is so lucky to have you and Kennis to rely on.

I gotta say, the next time we move I feel like we should definitely get an outdoor grill... we didn't bother this time around (even though Daniel's parents offered to get us one as a housewarming/wedding present) but it turns out that it's not just useful for summer... it's also invaluable during hurricane season when the power goes out and you want to have warm food. :p

Good luck with your to-do- lists and move, and I hope your mom gets her power back soon!

I'm glad that I can help my Mom out. I would help my Dad too, but he doesn't really want to stay with us. I am glad my Aunt can take him in. She has a huge house because she use to have 9 children living at home. (plus guests sometimes, she's Orthodox) So she has plenty of space. My Mom was invited to stay with her too, she's in the same town as my parents live, but because of the kosher rules would not do as well there.

We're going to get a woodburning stove. You can use them for heat and for cooking. We use to make things on the top of ours all the time in WP. (though mostly it was popcorn lol) We would have that as back up. I more want a grill for the Summer. After visiting my SiL this Summer I realized how yummy grilled things could be.

That's terrible about your parents! Most of the people I know who've been affected lost power for a while but have it back on by now. :-( Hopefully your mom can help out a bit with preparing to move!

Good luck with getting everything sorted for the move, and send me your new address sometime? *hugs*

Yeah our new house was out Until Friday night or Saturday, but is back. I know people other than my parents who are out, I think ee970 is still out, it's the possible 1 month estimate that is insane! I hope they have it back by 12/5..we're going to WDW then!
