dusk at livejournal

A couple days ago idahoswede gave a brief biography to her livejournal friends who might be a bit late to the game. I fell into that category, as I met her in 2009 through engelskjente, whom I haven't seen in a year (through my fault) but who has been my LJ friend for over six years. There isn't much need for me to write a biography to fill in newcomers, because of my ( Read more... )

2005 was also the biggest LJ year for me. Facebook has more to do with it than anything else, and I think that's pretty clear. The really cool thing about LJ, at least for me, was being able to keep up with a relatively wide circle of new and old friends in a pretty non-shallow way, quickly and easily. Before LJ I often had some not-quite-profound thought and had the urge to email 10 or 15 people I knew about it. I think I took that horse picture.

and your writing is never uninspired or boring, but rather is always entertaining, even if occasionally crabby (of late). I miss the more frequent updates. And if it helps my case, I am not on Facebook.

I've been mulling these topics, too.

It's bittersweet to re-encounter your or my or Tucker's old writings from 2005-2008. I don't doubt that all of us have more to say now than we did, and that solid update-writing would matter more now that everyone is in disparate geographies and career/life stages.

For my part, the decline is three factors: exhaustion; social shame (how unselfconsciously narcissistic I used to be; now at least I feel guilty about it...); lack of peer pressure (nobody else is updating here; why would I?).

Was a time when LiveJournal helped me promote & sell a movie, and got me my first job in advertising. Now, in this part of the world where everyone is post-Blogger and soon post-Tumblr, having a LiveJournal is probably a professional liability. When a client discovers it I make a wry comment about secretly being a 14-year-old Russian girl. I swear I'll migrate to WordPress, one of these days.

Paula's savory burger is transcendental. She inspired me to visit a neighborhood joint that prepares a foie gras burger (yes) but it wasn't the same without eggs and doughnuts.
