In my own parallel set of life choices, I am effectively opting for option 1 as well; although my option 1 is less stressful, riskier (since it still involves finding a new job) and significantly less remunerative (by 80%). It seems like with such a grave gravy train, you could choose option 1 just for a year or two, and nonetheless have enough saved up to be able to take your options and your developing-life-plan more leisurely for a couple of years.
