And I knew what was in the hanky as soon as I saw the back of it.
Remember, the doctor and his non-coat/coat incident with the Angels. The story of the the crack will answer many, many questions. I am more than willing to give SM a chance to stun me. I believe I will not be disappointed.
Rory's death also explains why he wasn't added as a companion in the opening credits so far. I keep waiting.
I will add that this season feels a LOT like Hartnell-Pertwee era for me. Silurians, fercryinoutloud! I loved that the Doctor left the negotiations completely in the hands of the effected parties.
My theory: Rory's death didn't impact the show enough, and therefore he'll be back.
Only the Doctor remembers Rory right now. While that will be bothersome to him, he's got other stuff on his plate to. Rory's passing in other people's eyes means absolutely nothing because now he doesn't exist. Therefore, tons of potential drama and angst is completely lost in the show.
Either Rory will be back somehow, OR at least Amy will somehow remember him. When a character dies, he has to affect lives, otherwise there's no point to his death on-screen.

But then Pete reminded me that the Doctor now has the engagement ring and I'm pretty sure he knows exactly who it's for and who it's from.

Don't worry, Rory will be back. He will be back.
