Its time to update.
My classes shouldn't be any problem, but here is a breakdown of them anyways:
ECO 202: This class has the potential to be interesting. It is macroecon, which is the branch of economics I favor. However, my professor is diametrically opposed to me politically. He made Greg Mankiw's blog "heavily recommended reading." Greg Mankiw was the chief economic adviser to the Bush White House. This is the guy who said that outsouring was good for the economy in the long run, and also the guy who got in trouble for saying that McDonald's workers were manufacturing employees. So...we'll see how that goes. I think the class will at least be alright, because he said "We will be closely following Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond." That will make sense later when I describe HON 101.
STA 291: This class seems kind of interesting. I've never done anything having to do with statistics, but it seems interesting to me. I like how I really enjoy all the math/science classes I take, but not enough to major in them. its like i want to be poor or something. Anyways, I don't have a perfect read on this class yet, but it seems interesting, and the prof seems alright.
SPA 202: Spanish! The teacher (I think all teachers in the spanish department are TAs...no professors) seems really nice. Yet again, a repeat of SPA 103/201. I wonder if we will learn anything new? We will see I guess. I'm considering minoring in spanish...considering it.
HON 101A: This is a freshman class...the first class in the honors "world food issues" track. I am one of two non-freshmen. Nice. The class very closely follows Jared Diamonds "Guns, Germs, and Steel" (see ECO 202) which is fortunate, as that is a really good book. There is also a lot in there about world hunger and stuff. Should be a lot of fun.. one of my "poor people" classes. The prof seems kind of distant.
PS 212: This is "Culture and Politics of the Third World." When I got my books list I kind of sat down and said...man. The books are all about how the guise of "free trade" has made the poor poorer and the rich richer and how the world needs a new solution to its problems. So, right up my alley. Unfortunately, the prof is real boring. But superbly cool. More on that later.
I've been hanging out a lot at church events and at the BCM. Thats good. There is a new crop of freshmen, which is a lot of fun. There is a big group from Murray who are really cool, and they are doing the SAC this year. I worked two soccer games for that already too, so I should be in the lead, maybe.
The Cards now have a three game lead in the Central Division.
Other thing: go to
this website for something utterly hilarious involving Focus on the Family. I got that from
thecomedian.
That is all.
