So I had an epiphany this morning. This may come as absolutely no surprise to some of you, but to me it was a startling and frankly embarrassing revelation:

I have a drinking problem.

I've always thought of a "drinking problem" as another name for medically-diagnosable alcoholism. My mother's father was an alcoholic -- he was drunk most of the time ( Read more... )

I have trouble drinking too much around men I like too. When I was dating that guy, we ended up being in several situations where I'd had to much, which is very embarrassing when you are getting to know someone.

However, I do exactly the opposite around people I don't feel comfortable with, like if I'm networking for work. I absolutely refuse, most of the time, to have more than one drink in these situations. This is actually a very good thing.

I also realized some people I was hanging out with drank a lot more than I did and influenced my own behavior. I don't see those people much anymore, mostly for my own health.

Anyway, I do relate.

That's a pretty big realization to come to, and I hope you're able to deal with it okay. I think you'll be better off in the end.
