Academia has a saying "publish or parish" which I bet leads to emphasis. Heck, look at all the studies done on global warming! Millions if not billions spent on it and no clear conclusion - could be humans, could be higher solar flare activity, could be lower volcanic activity, could just be a natural trend or could be a combination of several factors. Heck, it isn't even the focus we should be worried about
