Your credit card company, no doubt, cheerfully markets information about you to anyone willing to pony up a nickel for the privilege.

I quit buying from Amazon a few months ago when they were fighting with the big publishers over e-book pricing and de-listed one publisher's paper books as well as e-books.

I put Amazon on my Sony list after they ripped back the ebook they had sold from people's Kindles. Also why I will never even consider a Kindle to an ereader.

The "Oops, there was more fallout than we expected" when they delisted several books is another supporting event on the side of Amazon is Evil.

As to the credit card, I need one to participate in the current economy, so I don't really have much choice on accepting their terms. I don't need Amazon.

ISTM that another solution to the problem would be to not use Amazon to make the donation. Canceling the account doesn't get you any farther along with making the donation ( ... )

It's not like you can't lie to Amazon.

Last 4 SSN digits? Sure, 1234. Mother's maiden name? Smith. Birthdate? 1/1/1900.

File it all in Password safe under the notes and be done.

My Kroger points card is in the name of one George Clinton, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I did use the correct city state. I still get the money off at the register, but no mailings. Mind, they very likely have linked the card to my c-card by now, but I'm not willing to haul cash.

Yeah, when most places want to know my mom's maiden name during setup, I tell them it's "Yeahright" or something.

I'll keep that in mind if I feel a need to start a new account with Amazon.
