I'm currently struggling with what kind of car to get when I return to the US. There is a set of parameters that are fixed: I am getting a convertible, probably 2-3 years old, stick, under $30k. It really sounds like you want the Honda.

I got a seats-5 car so I could give rides to people. While I still get good use out of it for out of town trips, I feel really silly consuming a lot of gas and having the capacity to lug around people when 95% of the time, I'm driving alone.

Of course, if you're primarily planning on making long trips with people rather than joy-rides, you would need a car with more seats. Then again, usually someone else has a car like that.

The point is, get what you'll really enjoy having. The Solara sounds out of the question. Unless your situation is really unusual, it'll probably end up being "practical" anyway.

Used SLK hardtop! Coupe though, but it rocks and should be found for under $30K for a 2-3 year old one.

One of the guys working for me just got a new SLK AMG 55 version that is f-ing sweet (but might be a stretch).
