Super-Nostalgic

I just watched the season finale of the first season of Mad Men, and it's a very dramatic episode... It's gotten me feeling all nostalgic for old times, and people I haven't seen in a long time.

What makes you nostalgic?

What brings you back to the here-and-now?

I saw the video for U2's "One" tonight, and while I've heard that song literally hundreds of times, for some reason it brought me back to 1992 and made me think of some specific people.

I was bought back realizing that some of those people I talk to regularly (though we haven't seen each other in years), and others have seemingly disappeared. It's odd that the same stimuli in a different state of mind can totally change how you emotionally relate to things.

Isn't it strange how that works? I've had that a few times lately with music from a particular time period in my life... Every once in a while, cheesy 80s music brings me back to being 4 or 5 years old. (Up Where we Belong was one of my favorite songs when I was around 4 or 5).

Smells do it sometimes - there's a plant, I think it's called Star Jasmine, that always makes me think of my childhood. They grew all over my yard and I used to suck on the flowers sometimes because they have this honey stuff in them. But I tried it at work and my co-workers thought I was crazy. But luckily I've been there long enough now that they KNOW I'm crazy so I don't have to hide it!

Here and now? Where's that?
Hmm, not sure what does. Probably natural beauty. Timeless yet so present in the moment.

Ok, same questions! GO!

Star jasmine reminds me of mine, too! Though I'm not 100% sure it's the same kind of jasmine you can eat the honey from, is it? When I was little my dad asked me what it smelled like, and I said "cherries!" And he said it smells more like vanilla to him. And so somehow from that they became called "cherry-vanilla chick flowers." I think the "chick" part comes from looking like a baby chicken? I'm not sure of that part. ;)

And bringing me back to the present takes friends. :)
