[Hirat-kur Theater - opening night: open]

Apr 25, 2010 12:39

The novelty of an all-Vulcan production of one of Shakespeare's extravagantly emotional plays was a big draw, and there was quite a crowd on Romeo and Juliet's opening night. People chatted and mingled in the plaza outside the Hirat-kur Theater, the lustrous fabrics of formal-wear bright against the crimson walls that gave the building its name. ( Read more... )

It had been a rough couple of days but Jim was back, and they'd talked, and they'd yelled and they'd gotten through it, like they always did, and always would. And now it was time to get back to their lives, their obligations. Back to being themselves.

Bones returned from his afternoon appointments to find a set of Vulcan-styled formal robes laid out on the bed. A rich, dark green, the fabric almost velvety in its sheen. His mouth quirked even as he tried to produced a resigned sort of noise. Jim.

On the other hand, it was good to see that they were returning to themselves. That Jim felt good enough to want to go out and have some fun tonight.

There was a ticket and a note. Be here at 1800. JTK , an address written on the bottom of the page.

And so here Bones was, dressed up like a peacock, sweating in this ridiculous get-up and sipping on a cold, fermented ale that was as close to beer as they got on this oven of a planet.

Bones had been there for maybe fifteen minutes before there was a small stirring. Several Vulcans glanced towards the doors as they opened, revealing someone a little late to the party. The Vulcans themselves, it seemed, would not be caught dead being anything but early to a function.

Jim stepped into the foyer of the theatre, looking around with a brilliant smile on his lips. He was wearing black, long pants and what had to be regulation boots hidden under them. Blue, black accented robes were pulled around him, done up in a proper Vulcan fashion.

The dark lines around his eyes, after having to swipe the required black pencil from one of the people on the same floor in the guest quarters as himself and Bones... that was less Vulcan.

He walked across the room and straight to Bones, eyes locked on no one else at all.

Bones wasn't watching anyone else. Part of him knew that Jim loved to make an entrance, and fuck if the kid couldn't pull it off with panache.

The eyes were a nice touch, and the look on Bones' face told Jim what he thought about it. "Captain," he said in a low, growly voice. His eyes blazed as he looked up and down at Jim's outfit. "Nice threads."

Jim felt a wave of heat go straight through him with Bones calling him captain in that voice, with those eyes. He kept his expression calm, minus the small smirk playing over his lips, as he kept their eyes locked. "And you too, Doctor." His voice was low, almost almost managing to sound like something completely normal and incredibly perverse at the same time.

"I got your message," he added somewhat redundantly, as they were both here. "Any reason for the surprise?" he asked, waving the bartender over to get Jim a drink.

"Just wanted to surprise you, that's all. Do I need a reason?" He gave a little smirk, amused.

"Not at all," he said, stepping over to Jim's side as the bartender approached. "You want anything before the play starts?"

There were more people now, milling around, in various levels of finery. "This is quite an event. I didn't realize you were such a fan of the theatre," he grinned back, nudging him on the shoulder playfully.

Jim looked to the bartender and ordered the same ale that Bones was drinking. He waited until the Vulcan moved away before leaning in and whispering, conscious of Vulcan hearing, "I can't wait to see this. I'm hoping I can keep myself from laughing." His eyes danced, clearly amused to hell.

"Yeah, I was a little confused myself," Bones grinned, looking down at one of the programs laying on the bar. "So, is this Vulcans doing our Romeo and Juliet, or is it something adapted for them?" He shook his head, curious expression on his face. "How emotional are they gonna get? I mean, this is a love story, right?"

Bones had been napping through that particular class at school, as it failed to hold his interest.

Jim raised a brow in Bones' direction. "Yes Bones, it's a love story." Like he was talking to a five year old. But it turned rapidly into a grin, "I have no idea what this is. Should be interesting, though."

"Just checkin'. I'm a doctor, not an English professor," he rolled his eyes back at Jim. "You ready to go sit down?"

Jim rolled his eyes right back before nodding, "Sure, let's go find our seats. Wonder if these are any good." He eyed the tickets he had as he pulled them out. "I think it's a box, though."

Bones raised an eyebrow. "Someone must think you're important," he grinned, as he got another two drinks and began walking into the theatre.

Soon they headed up a flight of stairs and were shown to their box seats. "Not too shabby," he said, sitting down in the private box from where the entire stage could be seen. He turned back to look at Jim, standing there looking over at the crowd. "Not too shabby at all."

"Sometimes, it's good to be a captain." Jim laughed as he sat down, taking one of the drinks from Bones. "I have a feeling I would have insulted someone if I didn't come though." He shifted - great, the Vulcan idea of seats had a very stiff backrest. "These are nice, though."

"Better than one of those stupid dinners," he answered, glancing around. "I hate those." Looked like the box was all theirs. No one else around...

Looking over at Jim, Bones just smiled as the curtain rose and the play began.

Jim smiled back, and settled into watch.

It wasn't long before he realized this was boring. as. hell. The novelty of it wore off quickly, but without the passion in the play, it felt hollow and distant.

So his eyes scoured the audience, curious to who else showed up. It was too dark to make out much, but he could see across the way to the other boxes--

Oh.
