[Hirat-kur Theater - opening night: open]

Apr 25, 2010 12:39

The novelty of an all-Vulcan production of one of Shakespeare's extravagantly emotional plays was a big draw, and there was quite a crowd on Romeo and Juliet's opening night. People chatted and mingled in the plaza outside the Hirat-kur Theater, the lustrous fabrics of formal-wear bright against the crimson walls that gave the building its name. ( Read more... )

She pulled out an old-fashioned plume, but one that didn't apparently need ink. "The restaurant is called La'T'Freja," she began writing, drawing a map on a napkin. "It doesn't look like a restaurant, very plain from the outside. It's where the Vulcans go to get a taste of the Old World. Ask for Louie."

She grinned at him, conspiratorially, passing him the napkin. "Tell him Guinan sent you. You'll probably have to buy dinner, and it's not cheap, but when you're getting ready to leave, he's the one to ask about your particular digestif. Tip him well, and he'll get it for you."

Jim studied the map, then bowed his head and tipped an imaginary hat in her direction. "I am in your debt, Guinan." He smiled warmly to her. He glanced over his shoulder, seeing Bones going back towards their box. "Gotta catch up," Jim said, turning to go.

Sybok had been standing back as the fight between the other humans broke out, including the involvement of some woman visibly pregnant (no surprise there). Then he began towards the bar just to have a small drink before the intermission ended. Hopefully Spock would be back at the box before they started...

Then he saw one blond-haired human turning away from the the bar: the complexion was the same, the clothes were the same, and each one of the humans was so distinct in this crowd. Logically speaking, this had to be the exhibitionist.

Sybok smirked. "Good evening."

Jim started to take a sip of his brandy when an older gentleman greeted him. He eyed the man once, noting that despite the hair style and a faint smile that touched his eyes... the man had the faint green tinge to his skin that all Vulcans did along with the peak of an ear-tip showing through his hair.

Brows up. Vulcans didn't smile like that. "Evening."

"Altair water." He asked another person behind the bar, and then turned his attention the the human. "You made the show quite interesting. I'd like to become more acquainted with you, Mister...?"

He held out his hand, as was the custom among humans, wasn't it?

....

Did a Vulcan... just offer his hand in greeting? Jim knew Spock never did that, and Spock had been among humans for years. ...Is he propositioning me?

Show quite...

Jim studied the man for another moment, then sucked in a breath when he realized who he was looking at. It was the Vulcan who had been sitting beside Spock, watching exactly what he and Bones had been doing. Well... shit.

Maybe it is a proposition.

Cautiously, Jim slid his hand against the other's - warm, Vulcan warm - and shook it firmly. He wondered what the other thought about that. "Captain James T. Kirk."

A firm handshake back, but not too firm (the first few trials, back when he was younger, had yielded painful results for the other party). "James Kirk?" His eyebrows rose a little in pleasant surprise, and he ignored the looks of the Vulcans nearby as his hand dropped back to his side. "Of the Enterprise?"

Spock served on the Enterprise, so, by reason, this must be his captain. But he would leave Spock out of the equation for now, never mind that he could pick up his brother's name from the surface thought stream of this man (alongside questions about his own identity, how amusing).

Damn, everyone knew of him. He smiled a little, nodding. "That's my lady." There was affection in his voice for the beautiful ship up in orbit.

He glanced in the direction Bones had gone - must have already made it back to their box by now. He looked back to the strange Vulcan. "And you are?"

"Sybok." The water came, set down on the counter with bubbles rising from the center of it. He took a sip of it, before referring to Kirk again. "Did you come here on recommendation, or a whim?"

"Neither. Got tickets, supposed to make a showing." He leaned on the bar, studying this odd Vulcan. Sybok. Seemed to have a real S theme going in their names. "...How about you? Saw you with Spock." Getting right to the point before he took a sip of his drink.

"I'm sure." The human wasn't blind, after all, and they had been sitting right next to each other. His fingers curled, turning the cool glass on the counter. "He--well, he and his father--extended an invitation to me. I had nothing else planned...so why not attend?" Another small smile to Kirk.

But why would they do that? It left Jim wondering. "So how do you know Spock and his father?" As Ambassador, Sarek would know scores of people, but how this very ... unusual Vulcan?

"His father knew me when I was younger," He explained, not lying but never revealing the entire truth; he had long learned that there were advantages in keeping some details to himself. "And I helped Spock with some of his education when he was a child. Learning bowls don't provide you with everything." Erasing a few problems was a majority of his contribution, but Kirk didn't need to know that, either.

Sybok knew Spock as a child? Now the Vulcan had ever bit of Jim's interest. "Oh?" Jim put on that smile of his, the one that was we're such good friends, you want to be friends with me. "What was he like, as a child?"

The interest was nearly palpable in the human's expression now, and that had Sybok practically grinning, not bothering to hide his own amusement at the scenario. Kirk was so--personable, remarkably so even for a human. He wondered if Spock had been affected by that yet, being in this man's service.

"Quiet, as you may have figured out." Sybok took another sip of his water. "He learned fast--and I suppose he still does, doesn't he?--but he was also always curious about things. Not without the occasional accident, of course. You should ask him about the first circuit board he tried to make."

"He does," Jim confirmed with voice and a nod. He grinned as Sybok mentioned the circuit board, filing that away to remember to bring up later. It brought a small nudge of unhappiness (would there be a later, with all that happened?) which he forced down. "Definitely will ask him about that."

He went to mention that he had never met another Vulcan quite like Sybok himself when the lights above flickered. Jim muttered a curse, shaking his head. "Looks like we need to get back to our seats." He lifted his glass, giving it a little tilt in a salute in Sybok's direction. "We'll have to talk again." Complete with a little knowing smile.
