CotBP Musings

So I was thinking about something odd in CotBP when I stumbled across something that din't quite fit.  Norrington, as we al know, is an intelligent man.  I pretty sure he would know that Will and not the drunken blacksmith was more responsible for Sparrow's capture.  And yet he doesn't even awknowledge Will at all.  And then I realized something.  ( Read more... )

I don't think it's an over-analysis, I understood the scene like that when I saw the movie. Remember the end too, contrary to Weatherby Swann, Norrington knows who made his sword. And Elizabeth isn't very discreet with Will ("call me Elizabeth").

I've read a Rossio or Elliott's interview once (or an entry on their blog?). He said that Norrington learned fencing to Will before they became rival.

Oh I totally got that straight away. It's my own personal fanon that James courts Elizabeth so ardently because he honestly thinks he's better for her than Will is. And financially he would be right

I think I started a fic like that years ago, but that was two computers ago so I don't know if I still have it, or if I even posted it. But that was part of the charm of Norribeth for me. Insecure!James and/or Jealous!James for win.
