I wonder what this film will or won't change for people's personal fanons.

I wonder what people's personal fanons are with regard to our Navyboys.

Does James bite his nails, does Andrew Gillette snark at anyone that annoys him, is Theo a total slut!bunny? (The answer to all three is yes, btw XD) Tell me about your fanon, ask others about their ( Read more... )

Gillette's name is Andrew, and he is half Irish on his mother's side. I think he was born on the wrong side of the blanket, which stigma means he doesn't give a damn what anybody thinks of him - but he has such a meas mor such a big respect for Norrington that he shows him pure trust and unflinching loyalty.

And James, for his part doesn't especially care that Andrew is not legitimate. He just cares that the man is gorgeous loyal and damn good at his job.

I also have Gillette as full or part-Irish. I just like the idea that he slips into an accent when irritated with his friends or lover ( ... )

I have a snippet of fic where he's thinking in English and swearing in Irish - and I think I posted the one where he was saying things like "is maith sin" to wind up a paddy-bashing admiral and James was covering up by saying "smashing!" LOL

He is totally the loyal one - James knows he's at his side without looking. That's pure instinct brought about by a lifetime of loyalty paired with friendship& love :-)

Gillette is not a ladies' man - much and all as I'd like to be his lady! And yes, his more sensitive side he guards with his life.

ROTFLOL THIS NEEDS TO BE WRITTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

..I'm not sure! I've actually not explored him as much as the other two! (I dont know whats wrong with me!) What I have made of my fanon Gillette is that he is quick thinking, somewhat witty and struggles at times to put up with Groves' melodrama and Norrington's brooding.

Hrm...must think about him some more I guess! =)~

James Norrington is a younger son of a less than wealthy family who preferred to forge his own path in the Navy than have his father purchase a commission in the cavalry or infantry for him. He is a man who makes his judgments based on merit, hence keeping the pert Groves and insolent Gillette at his side.

He finds it easier to be straightforward in conversation and finds it difficult to speak of light and frivolous topics such as the weather. This has led to many enjoyable debates with any number of people, and drew him to Elizabeth, who challenged his worldview frequently, in spite of her gender.

He bites his nails when nervous, and he is nervous more of social occasions than of cannonfire. He would much rather spend an evening reading or playing whist with the other officers than dancing attendance at a soiree.

I definitely put him as a younger son. It explains why he's so devoted to duty and proving himself, either that he's capable or that he's more than a rich boy who thought being a sailor would be fun ( ... )

I definitely see him worrying if he is worthy of love - and that making him nervous and tongue tied and all stammery.

I may fic that meeting with the suitor - Magpie rolling her eyes indulgently, and James being all, "he is unworthy of you - he did not even last five minutes in my study!" And Magpie scolding him, "You have to give them a chance, dearest." And Lark pouting and insisting that the boy be brought back for an informal dinner which terrifies him.

JamesMuse: "What? Me? Initiate? I would never do that!"
AndrewMuse *sarcastically*: "Nooooo never. Not once have I been seduced doing the accounts in my office. Oh, wait, yes I have because the Commodore is a horny bastard."
JamesMuse: "Does it bother you?"
AndrewMuse: "Never stop. If you do I will never speak to you again."

My James loves history. Arrian's Campaigns of Alexander is the one he reads most frequently, although the Odyssey is a close second.

I want a Norrington! Just not a figurine

...somewhat sarcastic and broody, but only because he isn't always comfortable sharing what he truly thinks/feels. Without the 'hat and wig' and after a drink or two he tends to be rather personable.

He's passionate and dedicated, in regards to both his duties and his friendships. I tend to think he proposed to Miss Swann only because he felt it was the right thing to do, and not that he actually wanted to. He does find her beautiful & interesting though, all the same.

I haven't really thought much about his past, per say, but what I have mentioned is that he is separated from his family and has not seen nor heard from them in quite some time, so Groves and Gillette have filled that gap for him, in my little universe anyways.

He's known Gillette longer than Groves. Groves gets on his nerves more than Gillette because he is more willing to question Norrington's motives.

Cheeky when he can get away with it. He frequently tries to create levity in order to make the too-serious Norrington smile. Gillette tacitly approves though it would be like pulling teeth to get him to admit it.

Groves admires someone who is well made as well as well endowed mentally. He is my discerning slut!bunny. He is very good at what he does.

I definitely, though I never have paired him with a woman in a relationship, put Theo as a bisexual. He loves everything about sex, getting to know a person in such an intimate way. Though he may joke about being a slutbunny, he's not just plowing his way through the world just because he can ( ... )

...has quite the jealous streak. If he wants something and can't have it (or if someone gets it before he does) he makes it known...in particular to Gillette who tends to be his sounding board, much to his dismay I am sure. =)

He is not a slut (I may be the only one who thinks this lol) But instead places a high value on any intimacies he has. (He's not a blushing virgin though, either, mind you)

He enjoys a good challenge, which I think is why I always pair him with Norrington...who tends to not always give it up so easily ;)

He is somewhat guarded, but is loyal and a good friend to the few people he has allowed to get close to him and really get to know him (Norrington & Gillette, ahem).

He is easily bored with social gatherings especially when they involve Miss Swann

I could go on forever about this, really. normandie_m May 31 2011, 23:35:28 UTC
I factor all the films into canon, and though I've never read them, some bits of the Young Jack Sparrow novels. I get quite antsy about the film canon....although I don't like the way they took James' character, my first instinct is to work around the problems canon presents rather than take things in an AU direction. I have to say that my fanon does bring James back from the dead- he winds up in Singapore with no memory of how he got there. I tend to think along the lines that rather like Barbossa, Calypso considered James important enough that he couldn't stay dead ( ... )
