It was a funny coincidence, James mused, that they were both early risers, and neither prone to morning grumpiness. He had had mistresses in his time (a man didn't get to his age without at least one) but not one of them could respond to his early morning demands the way Estrella could and did. In fact, he thought with a lazy loving smile, sometimes Estrella could be more ardent and skilled than the most jaded demirep - and she did it all with such genuine joy in her heart and her eyes that he believed himself spoiled for another woman.
"James?" came a sleepy mumble from somewhere beneath his left ear, "are you awake?"
"I am, my love."
"In the name of God, why? I've kept you awake well past bedtime."
"Andrew..?" It had been a long and busy day for James, not helped by having to cope without his steadfast lieutenant to whom he'd finally granted a day's leave after weeks of begging on the younger man's part

When the metaphorical smoke cleared and the mess was metaphorically mopped up, when the prison's walls were repaired and life in the city and the fort had returned to normal, Murtogg scaled the steps to the stone wall Elizabeth had fallen from a lifetime ago. He sat on the wall, one leg over the rail Jack Sparrow had fallen over, and watched the sea. He watched the waves slap against the rocks below, listened the roar-whoosh of its might. He marvelled at the sun glittering off the ripples and eddies, envied the flight of sea birds, and smelled the brine-and-vegitation of the sea air. The sunlight warmed his red wool uniform and his skin even though it was closer to December than June.
Benjamin kept company with the sea, and despite the terrors the Black Pearl had brought down upon Port Royal, he was not just content to be here so far from home, but happy.
The pile of parcels and letters had arrived early at Fort Charles, and both Lieutenant Gillette and Groves had to carry the pile to the Commodore's office. It seemed that the ton had realised that in order to attract the Commodore's attention, they had to get their missives to him at the Fort, rather than at home

I had to write it... It had to come out of an Estrellington fic, because it took from the actual plot, but I couldn't let it disappear.
