after what happened.Completion: Complete
Harry and Ron arrived on the doorstep of Grimmauld Place, having just come back from the school and talking to Neville. They'd not been gone very long, all told; Ron had woken, eaten, and joined Harry a bit after he'd arrived himself, but it seemed neither of them were wanting to stay long with the knowledge that Hermione was still holing herself in the library here, even if she wasn't forthcoming about exactly why.
When they walked inside to find the foyer completely free of a hovering Kreacher, Harry stopped short. Where was he? It was too quiet. He looked at Ron and they both headed for the stairs, up one flight, then the next, toward the library. When they reached it, though, they found no one inside but Kreacher.
Harry stepped inside, frowning as he looked around. Books were everywhere. Open, closed, stacked haphazardly on the table, on the floor by the single chair in which Hermione would plant herself each day. Potions, Runes, Charms. Rumpled parchment and broken quills. Coffee cups, at least a half-dozen, that Kreacher was arranging on a tray to take downstairs.
Hermione didn't make messes like this. "Kreacher, what happened here?"
"Master's Miss has been making a mess in my Mistress' library," Kreacher croaked, placing a saucer atop a mug with a light clatter. "She is leaving this morning, so Kreacher is cleaning."
Leaving? "Where is she?" he asked. Kreacher only muttered, but Harry could not hear him. "Speak up, Kreacher!"
"Kreacher knows not," the elf said, "but she is not looking normal, not normal at all. Kreacher thinks something has happened to Master's Miss, for she is never making such messes. Befouling my Mistress' house, it is." The last comment had been muttered under Kreacher's breath.
Fuck. He'd picked a great time to leave for the morning. Harry turned quickly to Ron before he stepped out into the hall. "Where is she? D'you think she's in her room?"
